My Hero Rising v1.0
I swear this thing started like a joke. You know that feeling when you open a “fan project” expecting jank, and then you end up three hours later mumbling *why the hell am I emotionally invested in this pixelated mess?* Yeah, that. It’s not even subtle about what it wants - every route feels like a fever dream cooked in some basement full of horny energy drinks. One minute you’re in a dimly lit classroom, the next you’re somehow tangled up in a scene that’s way too specific to be accidental. The way it shifts tone - like, soft whispers one second, then full-on chaos the next - it shouldn’t work, but it does, kinda. Maybe it’s because the characters don’t act perfect; they actually mess up their lines, stumble, laugh in the wrong places. It’s weirdly charming. Or maybe I’m just broken. Hard to tell anymore. There’s a moment - and I’m not exaggerating here - where the sound cuts out right before the scene hits its peak, and you can almost hear your own heartbeat. That silence? It’s murder. Then bam, everything crashes back in like a busted speaker at 2 a.m., and suddenly you’re choking on your drink because it’s *too much*. The dev clearly knew what they were doing with pacing, even if half of it feels like it was written by someone drunk on nostalgia and Red Bull. The transitions between characters feel like walking through dreams; you never know who’s going to appear next, or what they’ll be wearing (or not wearing). There’s this heavy sense of intimacy, but it’s not clean - it’s messy, sweaty, uncomfortable in the best way. I laughed, I cringed, I… yeah. Let’s not unpack that. Anyway, I’d say it’s trash. But I’ve replayed it twice. So maybe I’m trash too. Whatever. It’s not about perfection - it’s about those tiny, stupid moments where the screen fades out and you sit there, grinning like an idiot, pretending you’re not into it. Spoiler: you are.

My Tuition Academia v0.9.2c
A notification pinged halfway through a spreadsheet and I tabbed over, expecting another email about Q3 deliverables. Instead it was this thing, My Tuition Academia, running in a dusty corner of my browser. The sprite for Mirko, or whatever legally distinct bunny hero they're calling her, was just standing there with that impatient look. You know the one. I clicked. The whole premise is a mess of college debt and bad decisions wrapped in a parody that barely tries to hide its references. You're this brunette girl and the rent is due, metaphorically. The game doesn't say it's Ochako but the hair bob is identical and the zero-gravity nausea face shows up in a scene with a vending machine that made me snort. Balancing a schedule between classes and... alternative revenue streams. The UI is clunky, like someone built it in a weekend with duct tape and spite. Clicking the study button sometimes just doesn't register. I lost a whole in-game day once because the library prompt overlapped with a text from Himiko about a "blood drive" that was definitely not about donating blood. The translation for that quest was so broken it looped back around to being menacing. The voyeurism mechanic is where it gets genuinely uncomfortable in a way that feels intentional. Midnight's patrol route near the dorms. You can just... watch. The pixelated window scenes with Mina and that vibrating toy. It's grimy. Then the game expects you to go to class and ace a pop quiz about hero ethics. The tonal whiplash is the whole point, I think. Or it's just bad design. Hard to tell. There's a groping minigame on the train that's a straight copy of a flash game from 2006, same stiff animation and everything. Camie's dialogue during the group scene in the locker room is literally just her saying "like, totally" on a loop while the audio crackles. My boss walked by and I minimized the window so fast I pulled a muscle in my neck. The prostitution simulator part is grindy. You end up doing the same loop with Momo in the library, selling her used panties or whatever, because it pays better than the waitress gig. The pregnancy scare sidequest with Tsuyu came out of nowhere and the belly physics were so janky I laughed out loud during a conference call. Had to fake a cough. Not worth the.5% GPA boost.
