1HG: Cold Winter Days
The whole thing feels like someone left their sketchbook open and you're peeking at the margins. Not in a bad way. One Hand Games has this thing where the jank is the point, the deliberate unpolish that makes you feel like you found a cursed VHS tape under a floorboard. This one picks up David and Melissa again, which if you played Hot Summer Nights you know what you're getting into. That blonde angel thing Melissa has going on isn't just a costume, it's the whole vibe, this supernatural glow around a romance that shouldn't work but does. I spent way too long on the planning screen. Not because it's deep, but because my brain kept short circuiting. You're supposed to be mapping out your week or whatever, but the one hand game tag isn't lying. The cursor hovered over Melissa's dialogue options and I just sat there like an idiot, completely forgetting what I was doing. There's this moment where she tilts her head and the light catches her hair and suddenly you're not thinking about mechanics anymore. The game knows. It absolutely knows what it's doing. Wish there was more of the eldritch stuff hinted at in earlier games. The angel thing is hot but I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, for something with too many eyes to crawl out of the text box. Never happens. Maybe that's the real horror, the anticipation that never pays off. Like reading the King in Yellow and only getting the first act. Still, the way Melissa's dialogue loops back on itself when you pick the wrong choice, that stuttering repetition, that's some Ligotti level dread right there. Or maybe I'm just horny and overthinking it. The bandcamp page has the rest of the series if you need context but honestly you can jump in blind and figure it out. Just don't expect closure.

1HG: Hikki
The pixel art is crude, like someone sketched it on a napkin during a bad hangover, but that's the point. Four years locked in her room, hikki life perfected, then the router dies. Four days later she's staring at a noose. That's the setup. You click through her apartment, find a vibrator under a pile of tissues, and the whole thing becomes a weird scavenger hunt for dopamine. The quest system is just "find the thing to make her touch herself" but the writing has this deadpan nihilism that made me laugh. She monologues about her dead blog, her dead libido, her dead everything. Then you click the shower head and suddenly it's a close-up of pixelated water hitting pixelated thighs. The sound design is just silence and a low hum, like a fridge in an empty kitchen. No voice acting, which is fine because her internal monologue is funnier than any moan. One scene stuck with me. She finds an old chat log from a guy who ghosted her. You can choose to masturbate to his avatar or delete the file. I chose delete, then immediately regretted it because the game gave me a "sanity" stat drop. What the fuck. The erotic bits are weirdly clinical, like watching a biology diagram come to life, but the desperation feels real. Her hands shake when she unplugs the dead router. The cursor becomes a hand that trembles over the suicide note. I wish the inventory wasn't so clunky. Clicking the dildo from the drawer to the bed takes three tries. But maybe that's intentional, the friction of being a shut-in. The game doesn't care if you finish. It just wants you to keep clicking until she finds a reason to not die. And the ending, if you can call it that, is just her sitting on the floor with the vibrator still buzzing, staring at a blank screen. No resolution. No cumshot. Just static. I think I liked it. Or maybe I hated it. Hard to tell with these onehandgames.
