Alive

So I'm clicking through this thing, Alive, right? And the art is that really specific kind of hentai CG where the skin looks like it's made of warm plastic. Not complaining, it has its charm. You're some guy on vacation, which is already a fantasy because who can afford that, and immediately there's this girl who's clearly a criminal. Like, not jaywalking, but the serious kind. The game doesn't really explain her whole deal properly, it just throws you into these minigames. The minigames though. What the hell. One minute you're trying to pick a lock, which is just clicking circles before a timer runs out, and the next you're... doing something else entirely with her. The transition is so jarring it's almost funny. Almost. The lockpicking is stupidly easy but then the other interactions have this weird rhythm you have to figure out, and if you mess up she just stares at you with those dead fish eyes. It killed the mood for me like three times. Why is the criminal part even here? It's like they had two completely different game ideas and just mashed them together with some visual novel text boxes in between. Oh and the vacation setting. I forgot to mention that earlier. You're at some beach resort but you spend all your time in a dim room. Makes no sense. The erotic scenes are actually pretty detailed, I'll give it that. The way the CGs shift during the, uh, main event is well done, the expressions change frame by frame. But then the dialogue is so stilted, like someone ran a Japanese script through a translator from 2005. "Your body is very warm," she says, while looking like a mannequin. I laughed out loud during what was supposed to be a serious moment. The game balances humor and eroticism by accident, I think. It's not intentional, it's just broken. The whole thing feels like a fever dream where you're trying to have a sexy time but a broken flash game keeps interrupting. I still finished it though. Don't ask me why.
