The cake thing. Nobody warned me about the cake thing. Episode 6 of this weird little detective saga and suddenly there's a secretary, a cake, and what I can only describe as a very committed approach to food based interrogation. You're still chasing the mayor, obviously corrupt, and his assistant knows something. She's got that look, you know the one, real model type with an expression that says she's memorized every bylaw in the city and also your browser history. The video quality is what it is, deliberately rough around the edges like someone filmed it on a phone from 2016 and decided that was the aesthetic. Not complaining exactly. There's something almost documentary about it, like you stumbled into someone's unlisted folder. The strip mechanics are straightforward, you pick dialogue options, she reacts, clothes come off. But then the cake. A whole sequence involving dessert that I won't spoil except to say the VIP treatment here isn't what city hall normally offers. The actress commits to the bit, I'll give her that. Real human, real messy, real... is this still an investigation game? At some point I forgot what clues I was supposed to be finding. Something about permits. Zoning violations. Her chest was very distracting and I think that's the point. Wish the audio was better. There's this hum in the background of some clips that my brain decided was a refrigerator and now I can't unhear it. The torture tag is misleading, it's more like mildly uncomfortable dessert based coercion. Not that I wanted actual torture. Just saying. For a browser game it loads fine, no crashes, which is more than I can say for half the stuff on itch.io these days. The secretary's performance has this deadpan quality that circles back around to being genuinely hot, like she's judging you but also definitely going to show you everything anyway. Six episodes in and I still don't know what the mayor actually did. Tax fraud? Murder? At this rate I'll never find out and honestly that's almost the appeal.
