Crusoe Had It Effortless (18+)

You know what's weird about MarbleSyrup's games? The way they just leave typos in. Not like, charming indie typos. The kind where you're reading dialogue and suddenly a word is just wrong and you sit there thinking about it for way too long while the cousin character is trying to seduce you. Sophie. The hopelessly hot one. There's a cheat code to make her not your cousin if that squicks you out, type "notsoclose" on the main screen, turns her into a friend instead. I respect that option even though I never use it because honestly the taboo is half the point here. The island survival thing is basically just a framing device for increasingly ridiculous pickup scenarios. You're stranded, she's in a swimsuit the entire time which, fair enough, tropical island logic, but the game really wants you to notice. Constantly. The blonde hair physics are doing a lot of work. I spent an embarrassing amount of time just clicking through dialogue options trying to figure out which ones actually matter because some do and some don't and the game never tells you which is which. That's either frustrating or immersive depending on your mood. The visual novel structure means you're mostly reading and occasionally making choices that feel meaningful until you replay and realize they weren't. The Patreon backers get an HD version and cheats that turn Sophie into an elf or a catgirl. A whole modern day Tolkien thing apparently. I'm not a backer so I can't confirm if elf Sophie is worth it but the fact that exists tells you everything about what kind of game this is. It knows exactly what it's doing. The writing oscillates between genuinely funny and trying too hard to be self aware about the incest premise. Sometimes in the same conversation. There's a new version that fixed bugs and typos but I still found three in the first ten minutes. Not complaining exactly. Just observing. The swimsuit never changes and I wish it would but it won't.
