The first time you see Iris in the Deimos break room, she’s adjusting her blouse and pretending she didn’t just come from a meeting where someone probably got erased. Not fired. Erased. That’s the vibe of this whole thing. I spent way too long just staring at the coffee machine in the background of one scene because it’s got this little blinking light that made me think about how even the appliances in Monet are probably spying on you. The game doesn’t tell you that. It just lets you sit there, clicking through dialogue about quarterly projections while your character’s hands are literally shaking on screen. The sex scenes hit different when you’re not sure if you’re the one who wanted them or if someone programmed you to get hard for women with security clearance. There’s this one moment with a coworker, big tits, tight skirt, the whole corporate fantasy thing, and she’s riding you in a storage closet while whispering about how you’re “showing real initiative.” I laughed and then felt gross about laughing. The animation is stiff in places, like they ran out of budget before polishing the hip movements, but honestly that almost adds to the uncanny feeling. Everything in this city is a little off. The voice acting during the dirty talk has this flat, professional tone, like she’s reading from a script she memorized during orientation. I wish the political stuff was messier. It’s all very clean sci-fi dystopia, which I get is the point, but I wanted more grime. The secret experiments plotline gets explained through dream sequences that feel like someone watched Inception once and called it a day. Still, there’s a moment where you’re fucking a senator’s aide and she mentions offhand that your file says you’re “rehabilitated,” and the game just moves on. Doesn’t linger. That’s the good shit. The corruption isn’t a big reveal. It’s the water you’re swimming in. I kept playing because I wanted to see if my character would ever figure out he’s not the protagonist. He’s the product.
