The opening sequence nearly made me close the tab. A sky full of stars, some bullshit about clouds and fingertips, then that PARASITE thing in brackets like it’s being edgy on a Geocities page. My eyes rolled so hard I saw the back of my skull. Sora’s back in Itsuten-ku because his sister got hurt, and the whole setup is drowning in its own purple prose about ghosts and shackles. Then, out of fucking nowhere, he inherits a teaching job at an all-girls academy. Sure. Fine. The writing’s doing that thing where it thinks it’s a profound visual novel but can’t spell. I picked the librarian first. Glasses, tight bun, the kind of woman who looks at a late book like you’ve personally insulted her ancestors. The tension during a private tutoring session is thick enough to choke on, and when she finally breaks, it’s all hissed curses and desperate grinding against a reference desk. The sex scenes don’t fuck around. One of the students, a pink-haired little shit with a mouth on her, practically drags you into a supply closet and the dialogue is filthy. I mean, genuinely nasty, the kind of stuff that makes you glance at your door. The psychological horror tag? Barely there. A few glitchy screen effects and a spooky text message do not make Doki Doki Literature Club. I kept waiting for something genuinely unsettling, but it’s mostly just... lavender. They keep mentioning smelling lavender. I don’t know what that’s about. Maybe the dog is a ghost? I spent a whole evening cycle just wandering the city, petting this mystery dog that shows up at your house, and absolutely nothing happened. It was the most peaceful part of the whole game. Then I’d go back to the academy and accidentally trigger a scene with the twins. Yes, twins. The route system is a mess, I clicked on one dialogue option and somehow ended up in a three-way I was not emotionally prepared for. The art during those moments is solid, everyone’s sweaty and flushed in that specific anime way, anatomy bending just enough to make it hot. The music is a repetitive piano loop that’s going to haunt my dreams more than any of the so-called horror elements. The inheritance plot makes zero sense and the protagonist has the personality of a damp towel, but when that tomboy character with the sports bandages finally gets you alone after practice, the game remembers what it’s actually here for. That’s when it’s good. The rest is just clicking through.
