Parasite Black

The curse is a black thing that crawls under your skin, a parasite that whispers and squirms when you get near a Demorai. I spent twenty minutes just clicking on my own character portrait to watch the little tendrils pulse around the neck. The game calls it a sandbox but really it's more like being dropped in a swamp with a half broken compass and told good luck figuring out which way the kingdom of Alderay even is. The map is ugly. I mean deliberately ugly, like someone drew it on a napkin after too many drinks, and I kind of respect that. The first time you meet a Demorai female, the parasite reacts. Screen goes slightly red at the edges, dialogue options get... specific. There's this one scene in a ruined tower where she's got these black chitinous plates that shift aside and the anatomy doesn't make any biological sense but who cares, the writing commits to it completely. Tentacle stuff, oviposition, the whole nine yards. The curse lets you do things to them, or lets them do things to you, the power dynamic flips depending on choices I still don't fully understand. Sometimes you're the predator, sometimes you're the host. The hentai scenes are static images but they change based on corruption level, which I only noticed after reloading a save like seven times because I kept dying to some mushroom monster I wasn't supposed to fight yet. The kingdom politics are there I guess. Some advisor guy keeps sending you messages about the war effort and I skimmed maybe two of them before going back to exploring the blighted forest. There's a blacksmith who sells you gear but her dialogue tree has this weird branch where if your parasite level is high enough she notices something off about you and the whole interaction shifts. Nothing happens. Yet. I checked the game files, there's art for it, but the trigger seems broken or maybe I'm just not far enough. That's the thing with this game, it feels half finished in a way that might be intentional or might just be jank. The font choices are criminal. Why is the inventory text so small? I squinted at a potion description for way too long before realizing it was just a healing item with a gross name.
