Dark Forest Stories: Scooby-Doo

The hunt for Fred begins with Daphne wearing... well, not her usual ascot. This visual novel doesn't pretend to be noble about its intentions. The puzzles are basically just clicking on whatever sparkles until the next scene triggers, but somehow that almost works in its favor? Like the game knows you're not here to test your detective skills on actual mystery mechanics. Velma gets this whole scene where she's "examining clues" bent over a desk and the dialogue tries really hard to justify why her skirt is suddenly missing. The parody part isn't clever or meta, it's more like someone traced over a porno and slapped familiar paint on top. And yet. I spent way too long staring at Daphne's character model trying to figure out why her proportions kept shifting between scenes. One moment she's relatively on-model, the next her chest defies all known physics. It's sloppy. I kept clicking forward anyway. The writing veers between unintentionally hilarious and deliberately filthy with zero warning. At one point Velma delivers actual mystery-solving dialogue about footprints, then three clicks later she's doing something with a magnifying glass that would make the Mystery Machine's suspension give out. The "dark forest" part of the title feels like false advertising since most scenes take place indoors but honestly who cares. You're here for the gang to get tangled up in ways Cartoon Network never aired. The Scooby model only shows up briefly which is probably for the best. Some lines can't be unread.
