The shinobi theme is just a thin coat of paint over a monster hunter fantasy where the monsters are aggressively single minded about one thing. The scroll item is a lie. I picked one up expecting a new technique, maybe a fireball, but it just triggered a full screen hentai still of the ninja girl getting double teamed by shadows. I screamed.
