QPrey: Escape from Lake Thing v1.2

It’s the lake that gets you. Not the virus stuff, not the brother’s fiancée walking around the house in those tiny shorts while you’re supposedly keeping watch for infected foxes or whatever. The water. There’s a scene early on where she’s leaning over the dock, and the animation just lingers on her ass for way too long, and I remember thinking, okay, here we go, standard quarantine fantasy. Then the lake moves. Not like a jump scare. More like the surface just breathed. The game is a kinetic novel so you’re not making choices, just clicking through, and honestly half the time I was annoyed by how slow the text crawled. The protagonist is this college kid who’s supposed to be scared of the pandemic but mostly seems scared of his own boner. His brother’s fiancée, she’s got these massive tits that the camera cannot stop staring at, and the first sex scene happens because they’re both stressed and she’s crying and then suddenly she’s riding him on the couch. It’s animated, the bouncing is well done, but the sound is weird, like someone slapping wet towels together. I don’t know why that bothered me so much but it did. The horror parts are genuinely unsettling in a way I didn’t expect. Something in the lake wants them, or wants her, or wants something they haven’t done yet. There’s a masturbation scene in the bathroom where she doesn’t know he’s watching through a crack in the door, and the whole time the window behind her is just black, like the night is pressing in. I kept waiting for something to shatter the glass. It never does. That’s worse. I wish the game trusted its own creepiness more. The cheating angle feels tacked on, like someone said “add more sex” and so there’s a blowjob by the fireplace that doesn’t match the tone at all. The survival mechanics are barely there, you just click on items and they appear. But then the ending, I won’t spoil it, but the lake finally does what it’s been promising, and I sat there staring at the screen feeling genuinely hollow. Not horny. Just hollow. Like the water got in somehow.
