The first time you see Kael’s back muscles ripple under the gym lights, you know this isn’t some soft dating sim. Trueclash throws you into Vibrant City’s underground fight scene where MMA is basically a religion and everyone’s running around with six packs and emotional damage. The character creator let me make a trainer who looks like she hasn’t slept since 2019, which honestly tracks. You pick your fighter, start training, and immediately get hit with choices that actually stick around like a bad habit. That Decision Echo system they brag about? It’s not bullshit. I told a rival I’d throw a match, then didn’t, and three chapters later he cornered me in the locker room with dialogue I definitely didn’t see coming. The tension was thick enough to cut. You can romance multiple fighters, men and women both, and the game doesn’t shy away from the physical stuff. There’s a scene with a fighter named Marcus where he pins you against the cage after hours, sweat still dripping, and the writing just goes there. No fade to black, no coy metaphors. Just raw, messy, adult content that actually fits the story instead of feeling tacked on like in half these games. The bara representation is solid too, big muscular men who aren’t just eye candy but have actual personalities and baggage. The art style is deliberately rough around the edges, sketchy linework that makes everything feel more visceral. Sometimes too rough though. A few CGs look like they escaped from a deviantart gallery circa 2012, and the UI is clunky in ways that pull you out of the moment. Why is the text box so small? Why can’t I adjust font size? These things nag at you during the quieter scenes. But then you get a training montage where your fighter’s muscles glisten and the soundtrack kicks in with some generic but effective synth beats, and you forget about the jank. The lgbt routes feel natural, not like checkbox inclusions. My female trainer hooked up with another woman fighter after a brutal match, and the dialogue captured that mix of adrenaline and vulnerability perfectly. No grand coming out moment, just two people who beat each other bloody and then wanted something softer. That’s the kind of storytelling that keeps me clicking through visual novels at 1am when I should be doing literally anything else.
