Monster Lover: Balasque v1.03

The summoning circle was drawn with chalk from the dollar store and honestly I think that was the first mistake. My character, this scrawny guy with more desperation than sense, wanted revenge on some bully. Standard stuff. But the demon that shows up? Not what the instruction manual implied. He's got this long tongue and horns that curl wrong and his voice does something to my headphones that makes me check if they're broken. The static buzz when he speaks. I don't know. You get these dialogue choices that seem simple but then the demon's tail is doing things off screen and the text describes it in this flat, almost bored way that makes it worse. Better? The translation is clearly not native English. Some lines are weirdly formal like "I shall extract your vital essence through the orifice" and then the next bubble is just "lol okay." It shouldn't work but my face was hot the whole time. There's a scene where the protagonist tries to renegotiate the contract mid... extraction... and the demon just laughs and the sound effect is this low quality mp3 that loops badly. I wish they'd fixed that. Or maybe I don't. The jank makes it feel like something I shouldn't be seeing. The monster design is genuinely unsettling in a way that mainstream yaoi never commits to. Not just a hot guy with horns. The anatomy gets weird. There's a moment where the demon's form shifts and the 2D art stretches in a way that's probably a bug but reads as intentional body horror. I kept clicking back to that scene. The male protagonist is pathetic in a specific way that reminds me of Shinji from Evangelion if Shinji made worse choices and had no giant robot, just a damp apartment and a summoning book from a sketchy forum. You know the type. The game forgets to give you a real ending, it just sort of stops after the third encounter and dumps you back to the title screen. No resolution. I sat there staring at the menu music for a minute. Then I started a new game to see if picking the rude dialogue options changed anything. It didn't. The demon still gets what he wants. You still let him.
