Rock Candy [Ran Ran Rump]

The whole thing is like a sketch that got out of hand. You know when an artist does a warmup doodle and then just keeps adding lines until it's a mess? That's the energy here. The "short flash" description is basically a confession. They spent so much time on it, and it shows in the weirdest places. The main character's left eye is slightly higher than the right in every single frame, and by the third scene I was more invested in whether that would get fixed than in the actual sex. Speaking of which, the sex. It's there. It's functional. The loop is basically click, watch a two-frame animation that feels like a flipbook made by someone who just discovered the concept of movement, click again. There's this one moment where the protagonist's hand phases through the other character's thigh and I actually laughed out loud. Not in a mean way, more like finding a typo in a love letter. The sound design is just... absent. Completely silent. Which somehow makes the whole experience more intimate? Like you're looking at someone's private sketchbook they left open on a park bench. The color palette is what gets me. Everything is washed out and muted except for this one aggressively pink blush that appears on both characters. It's the same shade of pink. They share the blush. It's like the artist only had one marker and decided that was going to be the emotional core of the entire piece. And honestly? It kind of works. There's a scene where the perspective shifts and suddenly the background is just a solid block of gray. No explanation. No transition. Just gray. I think about that gray rectangle more than I should. I wish there was more dialogue. There's one line, "oh," and that's it. But also I don't want more dialogue because that one "oh" is doing a lot of heavy lifting. The whole thing feels like a haiku written by someone who forgot the syllable count but remembered the feeling.
