MindWare: Infected Identity

Scrolling past this on itch, the thumbnail promises way more polish than what you actually get. Not a complaint, just facts. The html is barebones as hell, like someone built it in a weekend with a head full of smut and zero interest in css frameworks. Neon cyberpunk city, yeah yeah, but it's mostly text walls and the occasional image that loads like we're back on dialup. Still clicked through though because the premise is actually doing something. You're this washed up hacker who gets hit with a mindware virus that flips your gender. Not just a costume change, the whole narrative voice shifts depending on choices you make. One scene I'm reading about some corpo fixer pressing me against a rain-slicked window and the next paragraph I'm the one doing the pressing. The game doesn't make a big deal about it, just lets the pronouns slide and keeps the porn rolling. There's a bit where you can interface with someone's neural implant during sex and the descriptions get genuinely weird in a good way, like sensory bleed where you're feeling what they feel while they feel what you feel. Feedback loop stuff. The non-linear thing is real but also kind of a lie. You hit walls where the branching just stops and you're funneled into the same three scenes regardless of earlier picks. Saw a menu option for some kind of faction reputation system but it never seemed to matter. The hq erotic content tag is doing heavy lifting too, some of the art is traced in that specific way that makes you squint and go hmm. One character's proportions shift between scenes like they're made of memory foam. Wish there was more actual hacking, you know, the thing the protagonist supposedly does. Instead it's mostly dialogue trees and picking which body part to interact with. The mindware corruption meter fills up and then nothing. Just resets. Maybe that's the point, some comment about identity being fluid or whatever, but honestly I just wanted to see where the glitchy sex scenes went. They go to a fade to black, mostly.
